There’s something deeply satisfying about traveling on foot from one place to the next with only what you need for the day on your back. Inn to inn hiking combines the simple rhythm of walking with the comfort of ending each day in a welcoming guesthouse, small hotel, or village inn.
Rather than rushing from highlight to highlight, these trips invite you to slow down and experience a place gradually — noticing the landscape change, passing through small villages, and enjoying the satisfaction of reaching your destination for the evening. Whether following vineyard paths along the Danube or walking through the rolling countryside of the Yorkshire Dales, inn-to-inn hiking offers a more connected and rewarding way to travel.
We only host trips we've already completed, allowing us to use our knowledge to make the experience both meaningful and comfortable. Our pacing encourages stopping for photos and snacks along the way, spending time at castles, and we build in a rest day to break up the hike and allow for a deeper connection to a destination.
Walnut Path's Inn to Inn trips are co-hosted by Jennifer and her husband Scott. Scott, the Eagle Scout, handles the maps and apps and gear. Jennifer ensures that the inns are booked (and cozy), transportation and luggage transfers are smooth, and the group doesn't miss a bakery or hearty lunch along the way!
Photos are all from our first Inn to Inn trip on the Herriott Way in the Yorkshire Dales. Our next planning trip in the Fall of 2026 will be to the Wachau Valley in Austria, just outside Vienna and along the banks of the Danube River.
